We are overwhelmed, grateful and humbled by all of you. You have taken time to show your love for Charlie and our family by your thoughts, prayers and encouraging words. This has brought us to tears. We have so needed you. You can never know what it has meant to us. Thank You!
This morning Charlie was very nervous. When we woke him up to leave for the hospital his teeth began to chatter and he said he was going to pass on going for surgery; obviously not an option. When we would lay beside him we could always hear and feel a purring on his chest, so we teased that it was time to take the cat out of his chest. His response was…it has turned into a lion! How true! The nurses had him ready in no time and set him up with an iPad to distract him. He was given a sedative, dropped the iPad and was off. That was when I fell apart. Three hours later, the surgeon met with us and gave us news that everything went really well and that Charlie did awesome. He was breathing on his own and his heart was beating on its own as well. He is hooked up to lots of machines and tubes coming out of everywhere and was frightening to see. His day was spent snoozing and at times complained of being thirsty. His pain is managed and controlled and that is wonderful - the nurses are awesome. Corwyn, Georgia and I went for supper at 8:00 p.m. and when we came back his bed was raised, eyes open and eating a popsicle. Just like that! He will be in ICU for 24 hours, as it takes time for his heart to reprogram itself and he needs to be monitored closely. Charlie is amazing and we are just so proud of him - he is our Sunshine. |
