The procedure that the surgeon used was to stitch a Dacron Patch to cover the hole in his heart. In the next few months the lining of the heart will grow over the patch and it will be smooth and unexposed. Charlie had an echocardiogram and there are no leaks through where the hole was (yeah), and the right chamber that was enlarged (from working so hard), has shrunk back down to the normal range (yeah, yeah). The doctor said that we should expect to see him have a real growth spurt, given that children with this defect have subnormal growth. We are also almost out of the woods for infection risk as it normally would have shown up by now.
We were instructed again of the importance that Charlie is to have very little activity for six weeks. The most he can do is bounce a ball low to the ground. The good news is that the six weeks started on the day after surgery, so he is already past the first two weeks, which made him happy.
Praise God for this EPIC day - we are rejoicing.
